Seeing the Potential in Others: The Challenge to Embrace It

Chapter 1: Recognizing Potential
Lately, I've been immersing myself in my side project on Medium, which has ignited a surge of creative inspiration. This newfound energy has led me to contemplate various aspects of life more deeply. It feels reminiscent of Professor X using Cerebro in X-Men, where I find myself identifying gaps and envisioning how these challenges can be transformed into solutions.
As I reflected on this notion, I encountered a situation over the weekend at a friend's wedding.
Section 1.1: A Wedding Reflection
During the wedding, I reconnected with friends, sharing stories about our daily routines filled with the monotony of 9-to-5 jobs. One conversation stood out to me: I was talking to a friend who once had a passion for creating charming little drawings of animals. I inquired if he still pursued this hobby, and he replied:
“After work, I just eat and dive into my PS5. I had so many aspirations when I was younger—I wanted to be a game designer, an artist, or even a photographer. But those dreams have faded.”
It was disheartening to witness how the daily grind had potentially drained his motivation to explore his creative side. I envisioned the success he could achieve by selling his artwork online, perhaps through stickers or prints. Yet, here was another opportunity slipping away.

Section 1.2: Passion and Potential
Later that evening, while at another friend's house, we discussed the complexities of wedding planning. One friend became animated, passionately explaining the intricate details involved. As she articulated her thoughts with such clarity, it dawned on me why she had never ventured into wedding planning before. Her enthusiasm and expertise were evident as she navigated the conversation effortlessly, even recommending specific services to avoid.
Curious, I asked if she had considered turning her passion into a career. Her response was disheartening:
“My regular job is already overwhelming; finding time for something else is just too tough.”
Once again, reality seemed to stifle another potential opportunity. It reinforced my belief in the importance of pursuing one’s purpose, yet I recognized that fear often holds individuals back from taking that initial leap.
Chapter 2: The Diverging Paths
There are generally two types of people: those who prefer the security of their current situation and those who are willing to risk it all, seeking to break free from the monotony of a 9-to-5 existence. The world can be unforgiving, as success is never guaranteed. However, if you genuinely enjoy the journey, wouldn’t you keep pursuing your dreams?
