Unleashing Your True Potential: Insights from Building a Business

Chapter 1: The Journey Begins
Welcome to "From Scratch"! This series takes you behind the scenes as I embark on building my new business from the ground up. Throughout this journey, I’ll share my weekly experiences and the lessons I encounter along the way.
Becoming Your Own Superhero
It's an unusual feeling. For a significant part of my life, I was deeply introverted and often avoided large social gatherings or places filled with unfamiliar faces. It felt like I was wearing a mask just to interact. I struggled to keep conversations going, often fumbling for words.
There were moments when I wanted to give up on myself entirely. I experienced periods of dissatisfaction, feeling lost and uncertain about my direction in life, while others seemed to have it all figured out. Despite these challenges, I never fully surrendered to despair. Something within me held on, refusing to let me give up.
I later realized that this inner strength was a part of me that emerged when needed, guiding me through tough times. At first, I couldn't understand why I couldn't access this version of myself all the time.
When I ventured into entrepreneurship, I initially sought freedom and wealth. However, I soon discovered that this journey was much deeper—it's about uncovering my true self and unlocking my potential. With increased self-confidence and self-appreciation, I found myself growing closer to this "better" version of me that always showed up when I needed support.
As I delved deeper, I learned that everyone possesses a higher version of themselves or creates an alter ego. This concept is explored in Todd Herman's book, Alter Ego. Many athletes and high performers adopt an alter ego to excel in critical moments.
Initially, I dismissed this idea, thinking it was absurd to wear a mask. It felt inauthentic, and I overlooked its valuable insights until recently.
Throughout October, I felt stuck, but I took proactive steps to shift my energy. One practice was to ask myself, "How would my accomplished self feel right now?" I focused on visualization, attempting to evoke those feelings, and it often transformed my energy, making my journey feel less burdensome.
This technique has helped me push through challenging workouts when every fiber of my being screamed for me to stop. I've also used it to combat impatience and negative thoughts.
Interestingly, I stumbled upon a story about Deion Sanders, the former NFL star and current college football coach. Deion has infused an unmatched energy into college football, attracting attention from celebrities and millions in sponsorships, despite coaching at a less prominent school.
When coaching, Deion adopts the persona of Coach Prime—his alter ego. The real Deion Sanders is an introverted individual who prefers solitude. However, Coach Prime thrives under the spotlight and knows how to captivate an audience.
Deion crafted this character during his college years, when defensive backs were not earning substantial salaries. He broke that mold, coining the phrase, "Prime made us a mil." Just like my experience, he has become one with Coach Prime but keeps the two identities distinct, as he still prefers not to be in the limelight.
I've pondered the psychological implications of this phenomenon. Perhaps creating an alter ego allows individuals to shoulder pressure and expectations without feeling overwhelmed. This realization has become a useful tool in my own life, helping me stay engaged in my pursuits.
I've witnessed athletes in combat sports embody personas that starkly contrast their true selves, often coming across as disingenuous. For an alter ego to be effective, it should not stray too far from one's true character. It's about enhancing who you are, similar to how Deion has evolved Coach Prime into a more effective version of himself.
Week 64 P4P Updates
After months of follow-ups, we are back on track with one of our potential clients. Their October has been eventful, and I hope to capitalize on that momentum.
In other news, our growth continues steadily:
2,567 (+12) = 2,579 subscribers across our clients.
I’ve grown comfortable reminding my clients about deadlines, which initially felt annoying. Surprisingly, they appreciate it.
Another week has passed; let’s keep pushing forward. Trust the process and embrace the journey.
