Chapter 1: Discovering Unexpected Success

I recently published a story that I initially hesitated to share, and to my surprise, it has become my most lucrative piece to date!

These are the statistics from the story I released yesterday, which has now turned into my highest-earning narrative. When I reviewed its performance, I was pleasantly surprised. The story garnered 5 views and 4 reads, resulting in an impressive read ratio of 80%, which translated to earnings of $2.65.

I've published other stories with higher read counts, but their earnings have been much lower. This led me to realize that a higher read ratio correlates directly with increased income. The greater the read ratio, the more revenue one can generate. Hence, I consistently aim to enhance the read ratio of my articles through various strategies.

I’ve long heard that Medium’s algorithm is enigmatic—its workings remain elusive. Now, I am convinced that comprehending Medium’s algorithm is quite challenging. Interestingly, it seems to operate contrary to my expectations. Frequently, I find that the stories I believe are my best don’t perform well, while others I consider mediocre excel on the platform.

Despite this unpredictability, I embrace the uncertainty that comes with writing on Medium.com. The key to thriving as a writer is to persistently write and publish every day. No one can predict which stories will go viral or which will become their top earners.

Now, let me share the tale of my most successful story—one I was reluctant to write and share. I had the title in mind nearly ten days prior, but it never inspired me to write until yesterday. With no other ideas, I revisited my drafts and reluctantly started to put my thoughts on this headline into words.

While composing this narrative, I imagined it wouldn’t be as captivating or engaging as my previous works. Nevertheless, I found that I was able to finish it in a fraction of the time I usually spend on my pieces. The stories I write most effortlessly tend to become my best works; they flow from my mind without much deliberation, requiring no research or references—just my personal feelings and experiences.

After crafting the first draft, I hesitated to publish it. However, in the interest of consistency, I clicked the publish button. To my astonishment, the story performed remarkably well, counter to my expectations. During my lunch break, I checked Medium.com to review my stories, and I was astounded by the stats, especially for the piece I was reluctant to publish.
