Chapter 1: Introduction to Wam
Welcome to Wam's world! This section serves as an introduction to my favorite stories, categorized for your convenience.
Navigating Wam's Profile
Let’s delve into who I am and what drives my writing. This post aims to satisfy your curiosity regarding my unique approach and the sometimes unconventional topics I choose to explore. Growing up, I often faced comments about my eccentricity, which I believe has influenced both my writing style and subject matter.
Who is Wam?
To provide context, allow me to share a bit about myself. If you were to meet me, I would introduce myself as Wam, a nurse.
On Being a Nurse
I am a Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), which is a standard credential for nurses from the Philippines before they take their licensure exams. Currently, I reside in New Jersey, where I've spent the past two years. This background informs many of my stories related to nursing, immigration, and my pursuit of the American Dream.
The American Dream
The concept of the American Dream never truly resonated with me until my supervisor posed the question on my first day: "What’s your American Dream?" While everyone around me had quick responses, I found myself contemplating the answer.
On Being an Ex-Mormon
Additionally, I am a former member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which fuels my interest in discussing religion and spirituality. I enjoy reading about the profound mysteries of existence, and I’m currently learning Hebrew to further my understanding.
On Cultural Perspectives
As a Filipino, my viewpoint may differ from yours. I encourage you to consider these cultural variances as you read my stories. Our diverse backgrounds—shaped by culture, race, and religion—often lead to misunderstandings, but respect and kindness can bridge these gaps.
On Sharing Different Perspectives
I value your perspective as much as I hope you value mine. Let’s engage in discussions with mutual respect in the comments section.
Why I Write
Writing is my hobby and a method of documenting insights I find valuable. If something resonates with me, I believe it’s worth sharing. My passion for writing has deep roots.
Poetry and Blogging
In high school, I penned poems that my classmates borrowed to enhance their love letters. I later ventured into blogging during college while working part-time at a net café.
Copywriting and Content Creation
Over a decade ago, I unexpectedly landed a role as an assistant copywriter in Makati City, Philippines. This opportunity taught me a great deal about writing, client management, and my own capabilities.
Digital Marketing
Subsequently, I worked independently, creating content for various companies and learning about SEO and digital marketing over the years.
Religious Background
Coming from a devout family, I was involved in many church activities, often in teaching roles. Facilitating classes for diverse audiences—ranging from parents to professionals—has greatly shaped my writing on spirituality.
Medium Writing Journey
After a year of nursing in the U.S., I began sharing my experiences on Medium. I aim to share insights from my life that could be beneficial to others.
My Reading Habit
I am an avid reader, and I often share lessons from the books I consume.
Writing Tools
I primarily use my iPad for writing. Acquired in summer 2023 for studying, it has become a tool for both trading and storytelling. As a night shift nurse, I often jot down ideas during breaks, although my current workload has made this more challenging.
Where I Write
I prefer writing in cozy settings, especially the Starbucks inside Barnes and Noble, where the atmosphere fuels my creativity.
Essential Tools and Apps
I utilize various tools, including an Asus laptop, an iPhone 13, and numerous writing apps like Trello and Grammarly for editing. Each tool has its place in my writing process.
