Exploring AI’s Writing Capabilities: An Experiment in Prompt Engineering

Chapter 1: Introduction to Prompt Engineering
Join me on my journey as I delve into the fascinating world of prompt engineering. My goal is to share insights and educational resources that can help you navigate the realm of artificial intelligence (AI).
So, what exactly is prompt engineering? It involves the careful construction of text that prompts a machine learning model—essentially, it’s about what humans instruct computers to do.
In my exploration, I crafted three distinct prompts for Copy AI to generate blog content, resulting in three unique articles. This is the second installment of my experiment, where I will also publish these blogs to gauge whether readers can identify AI-generated content and to analyze engagement statistics compared to my usual posts.
Here’s the first blog entry: AI Writing Part II

Chapter 2: The AI-Written Blog
What topic are you interested in exploring? A blog post on the top three NFL quarterbacks of all time. The main points to cover include:
- A discussion of who the three greatest quarterbacks are.
- A paragraph on each quarterback, featuring an intriguing statistic and their most significant achievement to illustrate why they deserve to be on this list.
- A conclusion that offers an optimistic perspective on the future of football.
Tone: Adventurous
The AI-generated blog presents the following insights:
Who are the three best NFL quarterbacks in history? The consensus often points to Joe Montana, Tom Brady, and Aaron Rodgers. Here’s a breakdown of their achievements:
- Joe Montana: Renowned as one of the most celebrated quarterbacks, Montana secured four Super Bowl titles, earning MVP honors three times. His remarkable performance in Super Bowl XVI, where he threw for 331 yards and three touchdowns, solidified his legacy. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000.
- Tom Brady: Brady also boasts four Super Bowl victories, achieving this with two different teams. He holds numerous records for passing yards and touchdowns in a single season, along with a remarkable achievement of winning games by over 35 points—something no other quarterback has managed.
- Aaron Rodgers: While Rodgers has claimed one Super Bowl title, he is in contention for more championships with the Green Bay Packers. His ability to throw from unconventional angles has garnered him the nickname “A-Rod,” showcasing his unique skill set.
Chapter 3: Analyzing AI Responses
In my pursuit of accuracy, I encountered some discrepancies in the AI's output. While most football aficionados might agree on Brady and Montana being top picks, the inclusion of Rodgers as a third choice is debatable.
The AI struggled with precise statistics and factual details. For instance, it mistakenly claimed Montana played for three teams instead of one, which led to confusion about his achievements. Similarly, the AI’s portrayal of Rodgers competing for MVP honors against retired players indicated a reliance on outdated information.
I attempted a more structured approach, asking the AI specific questions about each quarterback. However, the frustration continued as the AI provided inaccurate data. This experience highlighted the difference between machine-generated content and human expertise, particularly in nuanced fields like sports.
Despite the challenges, the AI did manage to suggest an engaging title: The 3 Greatest Quarterbacks of All Time: Who’s Number 1?
