Elevating Self-Improvement Through Strategic Life and Business Systems

Chapter 1: The Need for Better Systems
After experiencing a significant setback at a provincial tournament, I realized that I needed to establish more effective systems in my life. My thoughts were often muddled, causing me to lose sight of my goals. This confusion permeated every aspect of my life.
With the national competition approaching and my plans to train in Thailand over the summer, it was crucial for me to become more organized and productive. As I write this on May 24, 2023, I’ve just been eliminated from the nationals. Despite this, I feel reasonably satisfied with my performance, thanks to several principles I recently adopted.
Chapter 2: Principles for Peak Performance
My journey as a badminton player has taught me valuable principles that have helped me unlock my full potential. With my next tournament scheduled for January 2024, I have ample time to focus on my online projects.
One of my aspirations is to write and publish more articles on Medium. However, after a long break, I found it challenging to regain my writing momentum—until I devised a system to aid my productivity.
My initial articles focused on investment topics, and I quickly noticed that my best-performing pieces revolved around stocks. This insight motivated me to concentrate on that niche. As I regained my writing rhythm, I felt inspired to enhance my productivity beyond merely posting a daily investment article.
Self-improvement emerged as another niche where I excelled, even though it's highly competitive. Drawing from my experiences, I realized that I could create a straightforward system to facilitate consistent writing and publishing.
The process begins with reflecting on my life experiences, identifying a principle, and then narrating the story behind that insight. So, naturally, I thought, “What better way to kick off this new blogging system than by discussing systems themselves?”
Section 2.1: Enhancing Consistency
One of my primary goals this year is to improve my consistency across various activities, including badminton, blogging, and other business endeavors.
I’ve enjoyed success in many areas, but maintaining that success has proven elusive. Take my e-commerce store, for instance. While making my first sale was never a hurdle, achieving sustained profitability has always been a challenge.
Blogging presents a similar scenario. I’ve written articles that garnered thousands of views and earned me a decent income, but those successes have been sporadic.
Fortunately, implementing structured systems in all areas of my life has led to significant improvements. My e-commerce sales are on the rise, my badminton skills are improving rapidly, and I’m regaining my previous blogging success.
By adopting systematic approaches, I have become more analytical and less emotionally reactive. As Ray Dalio mentions in his book, Principles, “Think of yourself as a machine.”
If you’re not achieving the desired outcomes, adjust your approach and monitor the results.
In badminton, for example, I recognized the need to enhance my mindfulness skills post-tournament. To address this, I established a morning routine of reading and meditation to cultivate the right mindset.
This practice led me to identify additional weaknesses in my game and the realization that I had to tackle challenging aspects to improve. Consequently, my brother and I resumed gym workouts, and our on-court sessions became more physically demanding, which has proven effective for boosting our explosiveness.
Maintaining a structured training schedule allows me to assess my system's performance and make necessary adjustments. After the latest nationals, it became evident that while our training improved our explosiveness, we needed to refine our fundamental shots.
With this understanding, my plan is to condense the physical training sessions while increasing their intensity, allowing for more focused practice on the quality of my shots.
Section 2.2: Blogging with Intent
The impact of implementing systems has also been remarkable in my blogging endeavors. Previously, I wrote whatever came to mind, which meant I often faced writer's block when inspiration failed me.
To overcome this challenge, I recognized the necessity of establishing a blogging system—one that would enable me to produce content consistently.
Reflecting on my school days, I remembered that writing essays on unfamiliar topics was manageable through research. I realized I could apply this method to blogging as well.
Now, when considering a stock investment post, I begin by researching the stock in question. After gathering sufficient information, I form an opinion and start drafting my article.
I follow a structured writing template that simplifies the process. I begin with an introduction, often sharing how I came across the stock. This is followed by an overview of the company’s objectives, a section on what I appreciate about the stock, and another addressing my concerns. Finally, I compare it to other investments before concluding whether it’s a worthwhile purchase.
While I still need more data on the performance of these articles, this systematic approach has streamlined my blogging efforts. I now have a reliable process for producing reports consistently. If an article underperforms, I can analyze my approach and identify areas for improvement.
This shift has alleviated the emotional stress that once accompanied my writing endeavors. We all experience fluctuations in our productivity, but our systems remain constant. By adhering to the processes we establish, we can observe trends over time and make informed adjustments based on our results.
