I have always been known for my independence, often forging my own path. However, there are moments when I find myself feeling stuck. Interestingly, a simple phrase from someone else can shift my perspective completely. They may not even realize they're providing me with the permission I subconsciously crave, but that moment can redirect my course.

This realization inspired me to dedicate a section of my book to the theme of self-approval for happiness. You might think you don’t require anyone’s validation, but I encourage you to explore this idea. Consider how this chapter resonates with you.

You Are Allowed to Be Happy

You’re here because you've experienced dissatisfaction in at least one aspect of your life. Despite trying various methods, some things still seem unyielding. There are barriers that remain closed to you.

One of the most effective tools to open these barriers is the act of granting yourself permission. You might not have realized that permission could be fundamental to overcoming the persistent challenges in your life.

I can almost hear your thoughts: “No, Christine, I do what I want. I don’t need anyone’s approval.” That’s merely your ego speaking. The true navigator of your actions is your subconscious mind. While you can temporarily override it, the moment your attention shifts, it regains control.

Breaking free from limitations

Whether we like it or not, we all grew up influenced by the need for permission. This concept was ingrained in us from a young age. Even the most basic needs—like when to eat or sleep—were often dictated by external validation. Breaking free from this habit can be challenging. But I urge you to explore this concept, as you have nothing to lose. Allow yourself to make the changes that will lead to healing and happiness.

Today, grant yourself the permission to pursue the joy and recovery that may have previously felt unattainable. In your thoughts, speech, and actions, affirm your right to heal and embrace happiness. You hold the key to crafting the life you desire.

Permission is especially crucial in areas where you’ve faced the most struggle. Whether it’s achieving contentment, losing weight, nurturing relationships, embracing self-love, managing finances, or overcoming health issues, giving yourself permission can be a transformative practice that alleviates years of frustration. I often remind myself to extend this same courtesy.

Recently, I found myself feeling stuck, torn between a desire to focus on writing this book and the weight of old commitments. My coach and spiritual guide posed a profound question: “Christine, have you given yourself permission?”

That question struck me deeply! I realized I hadn’t allowed myself the freedom to write without the noise of conflicting expectations. Although I felt a strong pull to concentrate on my writing, I struggled to commit until I granted myself permission to do so.

I decided to take that leap. I gave myself the green light to follow the path I felt drawn to. Subsequently, I needed to remind myself again to embrace ease amid these transitions. Once I granted myself permission to trust my inner guidance, significant changes occurred.

Embracing new beginnings

You deserve the right to thrive in every facet of your life and to experience happiness.

You have the permission to heal, grow, and prosper in various aspects of your existence—your physical, mental, and emotional health, your relationships, financial situation, career, and spiritual life. This holistic approach embodies true happiness, which is a state of harmony in all areas of life, rather than a fleeting emotion.

If you're struggling to grant yourself this permission, it may stem from an internal voice whispering, “I don’t deserve this.” However, don’t mistake this whisper for weakness; it’s anything but. This voice has kept you confined.

This internal dialogue can manifest in many forms, including guilt, anxiety, or even physical symptoms. Have you ever experienced a migraine before an important presentation, or felt sick before a date? These are common ways that limiting beliefs can affect your well-being.

Ultimately, if you harbor a persistent thought that you don’t deserve happiness or healing, both your body and the universe will conspire to affirm that belief, making true recovery elusive. Therefore, right now, give yourself the permission to heal and embrace joy.

If this newfound sense of permission feels daunting, welcome that feeling with love. You don’t need to justify or earn your right to it. Permission is yours to claim freely.

Hold onto this affirmation: I give myself permission to heal my life, encompassing my past, present, and future.
