Chapter 1: My Experience with Medium's Partner Program

In this section, I will share my personal journey of joining the Medium Partner Program and how simple it can be.

Before diving in, I want to emphasize a crucial point. If your sole aim is to gain followers to qualify for the partner program, it's quite straightforward—I managed to do it within a week and I'm eager to guide you on the path I took.

However, if your goal extends to earning a substantial income, the journey becomes more complicated. Here’s why:

Participation in the Medium Partner Program doesn’t guarantee significant earnings from your articles. As many have stated, it's not merely about the number of followers; instead, the key metric is the number of reads your posts receive. You essentially have two options:

1. Engage with other writers' posts and utilize the follow-for-follow strategy (where you can follow up to 125 accounts daily). This can quickly lead you to accumulate 100 followers, which is the minimum requirement for joining the Partner Program.
2. Focus on cultivating a genuine follower base that interacts with your content. While this method requires more time, it positions you advantageously once you reach 100 followers, as you’ll likely have a more engaged audience compared to those who prioritize follower counts alone.

So, which path did I choose? I opted for the first approach. There’s nothing inherently wrong with this decision; however, many of my followers may not engage with my content. I believe it’s perfectly fine to aim for that initial milestone of 100 followers to monetize the efforts you invest in writing. Still, keep in mind that having 100 followers does not equate to having 100 reads, and it’s those reads that truly matter.

What are my future plans? I’m thrilled to have been accepted into the Partner Program, but the impact has been minimal on my earnings—I’ve made a whopping $0.05 so far. However, reaching 100 followers doesn’t change the reality if they aren’t engaging with your content. My strategy now is to consistently deliver value and follow other writers who produce meaningful content.
