Empowering Futures: Supporting Change This Holiday Season

Navigating the world as a social entrepreneur and freelancer can be challenging. I often juggle multiple roles, many of which are still in the early stages of funding.

My primary goal is to share insights from my over 35 years of experience, providing young individuals with guidance and knowledge for building healthy communities and ecosystems on our planet.

While some people enjoy stable jobs and salaries, if you happen to fall into that category, I encourage you to support Medium by engaging with the writers you admire who are striving for meaningful change. We are a collective force on this platform, uplifting each other through our readership.

Being a Medium supporter means writers receive four times the compensation, a fact I learned from my friend Toni The Talker. Naturally, I became a supporter myself.

Since joining Medium in 2019, I have gained so much from this community, and this is my way of giving back to my favorite writers. I appreciate the opportunity to contribute to their success.

Our world thrives on reciprocity—giving first and receiving unexpectedly later.

Bee Wild

My long-time supporters may have noticed a recent change in the visuals accompanying my posts. My talented friend Robin Wild, known as Bee Wild, has been experimenting with the Night Cafe AI image generator.

I am so impressed with her work that I have decided to feature her creations exclusively. Bee and I collaborate on ecological and economic projects, often referred to as "Bee & Dee" by our peers.

Although she remains behind the scenes in most of my endeavors, her tech expertise has become invaluable, especially as I delve into Web3 and the ethics of transformative change.

For years, I have acted as her mentor; however, the roles have now shifted. It's time for the younger generation to shine!

Bee Wild's self-portrait

This self-portrait by Bee Wild captures her essence—a beautiful yet desperate scream of a mother balancing her roles as a coder for our ecological projects and a forklift driver.

Based in Berlin, Bee hails from my neighboring country, the Netherlands, while I primarily reside in Greece and Indonesia for work. Along with my husband Mike, we run the think tank Abundance 4 ALL.

Bee and I share a passion for astrophysics, mathematics, and the magic of the universe.

For me, Christmas embodies magic. Whether I’m alone on the mountain, among my Greek friends, or online, I believe in enhancing our intelligence and understanding the future.

I plan to write more on how to cultivate this intelligence, enhancing our senses, and envisioning future possibilities.

Generation Change

Through conversations with young people, I see a hopeful future unfolding. Evolution is underway, and I can afford to relax. However, in the next decade leading up to my retirement, I aim to impart the lessons of success and failure in change-making that I've learned.

A significant part of these lessons revolves around effective communication and managing expectations. By keeping expectations in check, disappointment becomes less frequent. Ultimately, change begins with the individual and their environment.

As a seasoned mentor at 58, I have the perspective to identify patterns and provide actionable advice.

1. Fire Guardians

We are currently developing a Web3 system aimed at detecting and addressing wildfires through community engagement and ecosystem restoration. Right now, we are in the funding phase.

Next week, my colleagues will attend COP28, the UN Climate Change Conference, where we will connect with representatives from Australia, Greece, and Brazil, while remaining open to other partnerships. If you know any impact investors, please reach out!

Our minimum viable product is nearly complete, created by volunteers. For those interested in system design, this project tokenizes various elements using data-NFTs, satellite data, and sensors. Farmers can utilize weather data for precision agriculture, while the tourism sector can leverage dynamic weather information for local apps and disaster preparedness.

From the ESG Guardians DAO manifesto

Education & Inspiration are at the heart of everything I do. As we launch our warning system, I look forward to developing augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) educational games from our data resources, alongside content that sparks initial restoration efforts.

2. Einstein Telescope — 3rd Generation

The proposed site for the Einstein Telescope lies within the Benelux region (Belgium, Netherlands, Germany) and represents the third generation following the second in America. The bid process is ongoing, and while it is uncertain if Benelux will be selected, I am rooting for it.

I am fascinated by how astrophysics informs our understanding of quantum mechanics, bridging the largest and smallest scales of existence.

If built, the Einstein Telescope could revitalize impoverished areas in the Netherlands and Belgium previously affected by mine closures and industrial decline. This technology is non-polluting, yet it requires extensive underground vacuum chambers across a 30 km area. We are committed to restoring the natural landscape post-construction.

To mitigate nitrogen pollution and minimize truck traffic for material distribution, we aim for a multi-modal transport solution involving trains and riverboats. The nearby Maas River offers potential for sustainable logistics, and we have already initiated projects to enhance river harbor sustainability and connectivity.

Energy is another consideration; the telescope will consume as much power as an average hospital. Wind turbines are prohibited in the area due to potential vibrations, so we are exploring local energy alternatives, such as utilizing mine water energy from decommissioned coal mines and heat exchangers integrated into sheet pile walls.

We are striving to integrate ecological and economic considerations into this project.

My personal motivation extends beyond technology; it's about the local communities. My country plans to invest 2 billion euros into this initiative, and it is crucial that it generates jobs, wealth, and health for local residents—not just attracting university-educated individuals seeking spectacle.

We have developed a model to ensure quality and affordability, allowing us to allocate funds for the social aspects of the project and communicate its benefits to the community. My vision is for all local businesses to benefit from the increased attention this project will garner.

I aim to align all sector narratives with Einstein's principles and assist teams in creating compelling media content for global audiences. With my background in systemic design and writing, I find it easy to merge these skills. We all possess diverse talents, and understanding Einstein's ideas can inspire a visionary writing career.

In the Einstein Telescope project, we are committed to minimizing landscape disruption and enhancing public services, with an emphasis on sustainable architecture.

This project is a complex puzzle that I find exhilarating! Additionally, we employ AI decision models, the Superformula, and more. This initiative is part of IBI2, the Institute for Sustainable Transitions and Biomimicry Innovations, where we seek to analyze potential unintended consequences thoroughly.

My role encompasses ecological and economic modeling, as well as honest storytelling.

3. Peloponnese Living

Sometimes, driving change can be as simple as creating a Facebook group to foster awareness among diverse individuals.

This is the essence of peace and community development.

Mike and I are dedicated to our Facebook group for regenerative tourism, Peloponnese Living. We cherish our time in Greece and are assisting local entrepreneurs in building a marketplace that attracts foreign visitors during the off-season. Injecting life into a community can often be the key to overcoming stagnation.

A heart shape in the sea

The moment I spotted this heart shape in the sea back in 2016 (no filters, this is real!), I was captivated by the location. Now, we are working from here for five months, which is beneficial for both our fire project and stakeholder mapping in Greece. It's also good for my health, as I continue to recover from cancer—I'm clean now!

And it's certainly rejuvenating for my spirit.

4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Various Projects

As the larger projects are still in their nascent stages (one seeking funding and another in the bidding phase), Mike and I are involved in several side projects with NGOs and other low-paying yet engaging initiatives.

These include an ESG-integrated model for freshwater restoration, online work for educational institutions, and setting up another Facebook group for an African regenerative team and a Blue Heart project. However, I plan to shift my focus solely to the larger projects once they secure financing.

Nevertheless, I will always prioritize my passion for writing. I have a science fiction narrative in progress that explores suspense without violence, eagerly awaiting my attention. If I don't bring these stories to life, Bee Wild certainly will. We share an intuitive connection, feeling almost like extensions of one another, despite our differences.

In my youth, I would never have dared to consider a career as a Playboy model, but Bee embraces that path. The beauty of her journey lies in her commitment to personal growth; her courage inspires me.
