Chapter 1: Introduction to Life Elevation

Since April 2020, I have adopted a set of uncomplicated routines that have significantly improved my mental health and reduced anxiety. If I can do this, I am confident that you can too. The key is to discover what inspires you and brings you joy.
There’s no need to implement everything at once; start with one small change and commit to it. Remember, progress, no matter how minor, is still progress. This journey can help you become a more complete individual.
Why not start today? Keep a journal or take photos to document your daily progress.
1. Incremental Adjustments in Daily Routines
Making even a 1% improvement each day can lead to a remarkable 40% enhancement in your life over time. Whether you're on a fitness journey, pursuing professional aspirations, or learning a new skill, one small habit can either elevate you to success or hinder your progress for years.
I read "Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones" by James Clear last year. It compelled me to reflect on the numerous habits I had adopted without realization. This book has been transformative, and I plan to share a detailed review soon. It emphasizes that, on average, it takes more than two months—66 days, to be precise—for a new behavior to become habitual.
Thus, if you're setting expectations for yourself, understand that integrating a new habit may take anywhere from two to eight months, depending on your commitment.
2. Prioritize Reading Over Screen Time
If you’re a fan of "Game of Thrones," you might recall Tyrion Lannister’s insight: “My mind is my weapon. My brother has his sword, King Robert has his Warhammer, and I have my mind… a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone to maintain its edge. That’s why I read so much.”
Reading not only enhances concentration and perspective but also fosters creativity and helps navigate challenging situations. If reading isn't your preference, consider audiobooks, podcasts, or YouTube channels as alternatives. The goal is to carve out time for your personal growth.
3. Let Go of Others’ Opinions
I often found myself preoccupied with what others thought of me. Over time, I learned that some people will always harbor negative opinions. Ultimately, the only perspective that matters is your own. Don’t allow external judgments to define you.
Start by listing four or five things you excel at. Self-affirmation is crucial for reducing self-criticism. “It is our attitude toward events, not events themselves, which we can control.” — Epictetus
4. Health Is True Wealth
This age-old adage rings true. Prioritizing both physical and mental health can significantly impact your life and those around you.
Begin with simple activities like a 30-minute walk or a quick 15-minute run, or incorporate five minutes of daily meditation. These practices can calm your mind and energize your body. If you’re struggling with anxiety or other mental health issues, don’t hesitate to seek professional help.
5. Embrace Writing or a Creative Outlet
I’ve been writing since my teenage years, primarily for myself, lacking the courage to share it with others. Writing has proven to be a therapeutic and meditative process.
If you find it challenging to express yourself verbally, start journaling. The act of writing can help alleviate fears and insecurities. “Courage isn’t having the strength to go on; it is going on when you don’t have the strength.” — Napoleon Bonaparte
6. The Importance of Rest
It’s unfortunate that rest is often associated with laziness. You are not a machine; your mind and body need rest to thrive. Taking breaks is essential for optimal performance.
One of my personal themes for 2022 has been to prioritize rest. To anyone who needs to hear this: take breaks without guilt.
In conclusion, let’s establish firm boundaries to cut back on less productive activities, allowing us to focus on what truly matters—be it exercising, spending quality time with loved ones, or rekindling hobbies that bring you joy.
