Let's label the vertices of the cubes as points A, B, and C to facilitate our calculations.

You’ll notice that triangle XCY is a right triangle, featuring sides XC, CY, and the hypotenuse XY. Our objective is to determine the length of this hypotenuse, XY.

For side XC, it corresponds to the total height of the four cubes stacked together, giving us a length of:

Now, let’s examine CY. This side represents the diagonal of the bottom cube, which has a side length of 4. By applying Pythagoras’ Theorem, we can calculate:

CY² = 4² + 4², leading us to find CY = 4√2.

With the lengths of XC and CY established, we can once again utilize Pythagoras’ Theorem to find XY, the distance traveled by the ant:

XY² = 10² + (4√2)², which simplifies to XY = 2√33.
